Roy Morrison, a retired RCAF Warrant Officer, who served in 35 bombing runs over Germany during the Second World War, recently received his service medals after waiting in limbo for 70 years.

It’s taken 70 years but Roy Morrison’s long-awaited war medals are now in hand. By the fall of 1943, with a sense of “adventure” filling his soul, Morrison shipped off to England where he was assigned to the Royal Air Force Bomber Command #90 Squadron.

In all, Morrison flew with his crew on 35 successful bombing missions over Germany, beginning with his first on Nov. 15, 1943 and his last one on April 9, 1945. And, for each and every one of those 35 flights  – some of which saw enemy flak penetrating the fuselage of his plane – Morrison worried it would be his last. He did return home safely
