During World War II, PBYs were used in anti-submarine warfare, patrol bombing, convoy escorts, search and rescue missions, and cargo transport. The PBY’s design was so successful that it became the most numerous aircraft of its kind.
This is the Consolidated Catalina PBY-5A flying boat displaying at Biggin Hill 2016. This particular Catalina PBY Flying Boat (G-PBYA) is operated by Plane Sailing Air Displays Limited out of Duxford.
