Coming up at 19th March 2016 at Cheffins auction in Sutton of amazing collection of 250 aviation pieces originally belonged to avid aviation enthusiast Bill Richards, from Bolton, who passed away in March last year and spent many years building up his beloved collection of Second World War aircraft engines and memorabilia. The Auction is organised by Cambridgeshire auctioneers Cheffins.

The auction includes a full scale glass fibre replica of Spitfire IX Full with full undercarriage, cockpit fitted with original instruments, control column and foot pedals, which has a guide price of £10,000. Auctioneer Jerry Curzon, from Cheffins, said it was the first time he seen the "incredibly unusual item" come up for auction and interest could come from both collectors and museums, The Bolton News reported.

The plane is mounted in sections to its custom twin axle trailer with fold down wing cradles and remote control gantries for mounting wings, 4 prop blades and tail plane section mounted on custom frames, ready to assemble at shows . The whole assembly measuring 12m x 2m approx. The replica was a regular invited guest to many shows and events at displays all over the country, including 1940s weekends and VE Day and Remembrance Sunday services. Last shown August 2014.

The collection also includes a boxed set of Avro Shackleton propeller blade (6) t/w hubs, the contra rotating set in used condition presented in the original crate, with a guide price of £1,000 to £2,000.

Another highlight of the collection is an unused Packard Merlin XXVIII V12 engine mounted to wheeled display stand, understood to have originated from Canada. No documentary evidence exists of the purchase but this none the less represents a very exciting opportunity to purchase a warbird engine that is potentially ready to go. It has a guide price of £30,000.

There are also demonstration Rolls Royce Griffon engines that were used in Spitfires and the Shackleton, Rolls Royce Merlin engines, used in Spitfires and Lancaster Bombers, among other aircraft.

The Bill Richards Collection will be sold at Cheffins’ Machinery Saleground, Sutton, near Ely, Cambridgeshire, from 10.30am on Saturday, March 19. For more information, visit
