This B-24 Liberator was forced to land in a sago swamp on October 18, 1943, in Papua New Guinea, after running low on fuel after a bombing mission. The crew evacuated before the pilot and co-pilot landed safely in a swamp. After the crash, a US Army salvage team recovered the four engines, landing gear, machine guns and gun turrets from the bomber.

On this video Pacific Wrecks treks to a B-24 Liberator crash site in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and documents it with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision drone. “The locals in Papua New Guinea called this wreck ‘Swamp Ghost’,” says Eckell, who photographed it in March 2013.
