Larry McDonough piloted B-17s on 25 missions, Dick Irwin looked through bomb site on B-25s.
Larry McDonough and Dick Irwin flew aboard a B-17 Thursday. It might have been one of the safest flight either ever had aboard a World War II bomber. McDonough piloted B-17s on 25 missions out of England during the war while Irwin was a navigator/bombardier aboard B-25s.
Hosted by Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 905, the B-17 will be at McKinnon St. Simons Airport through Sunday offering ground tours and flights. Before they flew Thursday afternoon, McDonough and Irwin talked on the apron at the airport.
