A portable field surgical unit (think MASH or aid station) operates in a field near the front lines of northern Burma during WW2. Lt. Colonel Gordon S. Seagraves, head of the unit, performs surgery on wounded soldiers in the open air with only umbrellas protecting his patient from the monsoon rains. The unit is made up of US, Chinese and Burmese male and female personnel.
