It's possible that you have seen many times the footage of the boys from the Hitler Youth as young as 12, being decorated by Adolf Hitler with Iron Crosses for their heroism in the defense of Berlin. This happened on March 19th 1945, on the 56th Hitler's birthday. This moment was the last time Adolf Hitler ventured go out of his Berlin bunker.

This film remain one of the most enduring images chronicling the collapse of Hitler's thousand-year Reich. The Führer is seen congratulating little boys staring at him with worshipful admiration. Each of them was presented as a little hero, having single-handedly knocked out a tank with his Panzerfaust or having killed Russian soldiers. They were then sent back out into the streets to continue the hopeless fight.
