When World War II veteran Edward Henry Stuever, 96, was invited to attend a flag retirement ceremony in honor of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday at Briar Glen Elementary School in Wheaton where his great-granddaughter attends, he didn't think twice about his answer. Despite being less and less mobile, the Naperville man's family said, Stuever made his way to the school on a recent cold and wet afternoon where he sat in his wheelchair near the flagpole surrounded by the entire student body.
