The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch was one of the most iconic aircraft to serve in the Luftwaffe, seeing service in every German theatre of conflict during WW2. The Fieseler Storch Fi 156 flew such passengers as Hermann Göring, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, Benito Mussolini... and Even Winston Churchill. 


To this day it is still considered to be one of the best STOL (Short takeoff and landing) designs of all time. As a liaison and observation platform it was second to none out performing every allied counterpart with both its rugged construction, reliability and performance. More importantly, it displays excellent slow flying capabilities. Flying with ease over many a battlefield for sustained periods of time with its slow flying speed actually being one of its major defensive measures. It simply flew too low and slow for allied pilots to shoot it down!


It is for these very reasons that many a renowned allied generals preferred to use captured Storch's for their own personal transportation over areas of conflict. Most noticeably, Field Marshal Montgomery and Air Vice Marshal Harry Broadhurst both used Storch's in the North African and Western Europe theaters of war.


A number of Fieseler Fi 156s still exist, including some in Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States. The aircraft served with armed forces of postwar Poland, Czechoslovakia, Spain, and France, as well as with those in Thailand. The Japanese even flew a modified version as late as 1997.


This 1944 Fieseler Fi-156 C-7 Storch S/N 3452 D-EVAS was manufactured in Kassel and delivered to the Italian airforce after acceptance inAugust 1944. This aircraft was then allocated serial number MM463 as a C-2 type, i.e. a reconnaissance aircraft. In its early military days it served in Albania, then returned to Italy and joined Gruppo Autonomo Volo 3° ZAT, then transferred to Reparto P2. There it was involved in an accident during October 1946. The last log entry says it was to be disposed of after necessary repairs in May 1947.


The Storch then found its way to the USA where it was restored and flown from July 1985 onwards. In 2012 the current Owner secured the Storch and had it completely rebuilt to airworthy condition.
