The Kholm Pocket was the name given for the encirclement of German troops by the Soviet Army around the city of Kholm, south of Leningrad (Saint Petersburg), from 23 January 1942 until 5 May 1942, resulting a decisive German defensive success. Kholm was eventually liberated by the Soviets on  21 February 1944. Near Kholm, Novgorod Oblast, Russia, Soviet Union. January 1942.
